Dianon Pathology is a leading provider of anatomic pathology with subspecialty expertise in dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, hematopathology, and uropathology. Dianon has 30 years of experience providing specialized anatomic pathology services to physician practices and hospitals.
Since its inception in 1983 in Stamford, Conn, Dianon Pathology has combined the pathology expertise of academic-based centers with the personal service of a local pathologist. With full-color graphical reports and personalized information for physicians, patients, and health plans, Dianon Pathology quickly became one of the largest and most respected pathology providers in the industry.
Dianon’s commitment to personalized medicine was evident in its unique level of service. For physicians, Dianon provided practice summaries and national data that helped practitioners compare their patients and findings to others across the country.
For patients, Dianon’s CarePath patient education program and CarePathOnline Web site were innovative ways to provide patient information. Patient-specific reports were provided to the physician along with pathology results, allowing the physician to provide detailed information to the patient at the point of care. In addition, CarePath reports contained unique login information that allowed patients to learn even more via a secure Web site.
For health plans, Dianon provided summary statistics that were valuable for trending. Plans used these reports to evaluate overall quality and ensure that results were consistent with national averages. Plans could be proactive in identifying a disease that might be under-diagnosed in their member network, allowing for additional physician education or other campaigns.
In 2000 and 2001, Dianon was named to Forbes’ “Best 200 Small Companies.” Because of the volume and specialization, Dianon offered technologies that often were unavailable at local hospitals or laboratories.
In 2003, Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings (LabCorp) acquired Dianon. For the past decade, the enhanced pathology services of Dianon—combined with LabCorp’s clinical test menu—have provided clients with a single-source solution for specialized laboratory testing. This relationship has also enabled Dianon to utilize LabCorp’s vast infrastructure and strengthen its overall product offering.
Providing exceptional quality in pathology results has always been at the core of Dianon’s mission and remains there today. Dianon’s signature service—the 4 Steps to Quality—provides reassurance to physicians and their patients. In addition to subspecialty-trained pathologists, Dianon’s daily review of malignant and suspicious cases and random review of benign cases provides a built-in second opinion. Special stains provide further diagnostic clarity, any cases that remain in question are referred to academic-based experts for diagnostic confirmation.
Today, our mission continues with the same principles established more than 30 years ago: focusing on the client and the patient to deliver industry-leading results and connectivity solutions. Dianon remains distinguished for its capabilities in specific organ systems and the clinical disciplines of uropathology, dermatopathology, and gastrointestinal pathology. Clinicians can act in confidence on the results they receive from Dianon.
The team at Dianon understands that behind every sample is a patient awaiting an accurate, timely diagnosis. That is why our team continues to provide exceptional pathology and professional service to our clients.
